Founded in 1928, Speedo is the world's leading swimwear brand. Speedo products are distributed in over 170 countries around the world.
Speedo has over 80 years of heritage and expertise in swimwear, apparel and equipment based in or near the water.
The Speedo story begins when a young Scot, Alexander MacRae, emigrates to Australia in 1910 and sets up an underwear manufacturing business: MacRae and Company Hosiery.
During the 1920s, the swimwear market grows rapidly. MacRae introduces the classic, figure-hugging “Racerback” costume, which permits greater freedom of movement, allowing wearers to swim faster. This inspires the company to coin the slogan: “Speed on in your Speedos.”
In 2000 Speedo® launches the revolutionary FAST-SKIN® swimsuit. Its award-winning sharkskin-based design is eagerly received by many of the world’s top swimmers. World records tumble and 83% of swim medals in Sydney are won in Speedo.
In 2008, its 80th year, Speedo launches LZR RACER®, the world’s fastest swimsuit. The launch creates a media buzz around the globe and the results from Beijing speak for themselves: 94% of all gold medals and 89% of all swimming medals are won by athletes in the Speedo LZR RACER®. Michael Phelps, wearing the Speedo LZR RACER®, is now the greatest Olympian of all time, winning an incredible eight gold medals in Beijing - seven of them in world record time.
